Are new Macs around the corner? I hope so

Now that Apple’s “Let’s Rock” is gone many of us (including myself) are looking forward to the next big thing on Apple’s horizon and that would be a bump to the notebook lineup. Currently I have three Macs; 17″ MacBook Pro, PowerMac G5, and a MacPro (my favorite being the MacBook Pro) which accompanies me when I travel.

It’s been a while since the MacBook Pro has received a major update. Obviously the Mac will have a faster processor, most likely a larger hard drive, I’m also hoping for longer battery life, and it would be great if we got an improved video card. I’m betting that Apple will have a special event devoted to the release just as though they had for the iPhone and the iPod but that could be just wishful thinking on my part.

I’m not one to purchase a product as soon as it is released. I’ve had my current 17″ MacBook Pro for almost two years now. I purchased it at the online Apple store. It was customized so has all the bells and whistles I’m definitely looking for the new MacBook Pro’s since I’m in need of a replacement. My MacBook Pro has done an excellent job and rarely has given me trouble and I use it several hours daily.

It will be hard saying goodbye to my “old friend” however it’s not going far, my five-year old daughter will be receiving it. She’s in kindergarten, and she has a computer class. She’s already familiar with computers I started getting her familiar with them when she was three years old.

Apple announces an updated MacBook and MacBook Pro

MacBook-Pro and MacBook.pngIf you’ve been waiting for an updated MacBook Pro your wait is over. Apple has updated the MacBook Pro and their MacBook lineup. The MacBook Pro was getting quite long in the tooth and in desperate need of an update. This, by far has been the longest gap we’ve seen between updates.

The new Intel core 2 duo processors are included in the update, and we are also seeing the multi-touch trackpad make its way into the Pro lineup. Multi-touch was first revealed in the iPhone, and it carried over to the iPod touch. We saw it emerge for the first time in the Mac lineup. It was featured in the MacBook Air. Seeing this feature added to the MacBook Pro was a no brainer. The signs were there. Also Steve Jobs has stated that multi-touch would find its was into other Apple products.

The MacBook’s didn’t receive as impressive an update but if you remember it was updated towards the end of last year. I’ll be purchasing a MacBook Pro, but personally I’m going to wait until there is a major update. I’m guessing that will happen sometime this summer. I’m not an early adapter so I’ll bide my time and purchase my updated MacBook Pro a few months after they are released. I’m impressed with the updates that I’ve seen in the MacBook Pro update, but I’ll still hold out until a major update. My 17″ MacBook Pro is still my favorite computer and will be my faithful companion until I replace it with a newer model.

MacBook Air: Hip, Sexy, and Cool Introducing the World’s Thinnest Computer!

Apple has wowed me again. The newest computer to grace their lineup is the MacBook Air. The MacBook Air is the hottest new computer that’s being released by Apple. Weighing three pounds the MacBook Air is the world’s thinnest computer. Currently there is only one size available the 13.3 screen.

Multi-Touch Trackpad

Adopting some of the principles that have made iPhone’s popular you’ll be able to pinch, rotate, and move forward to backward with your trackpad. If you are using its big sister, the MacBook Pro, hold on tight Apple will be adding this feature to the new line of MacBook Pro’s.

Slimmer Battery

The battery has lost some weight but it hasn’t lost it’s power you can access the internet wirelessly for up to five hours.

Remote Disc

Another feature that has me drooling is the ability to access the CD or DVD drive of a nearby computers. How cool is that?

With something this small you cannot expect MacBook Air to have everything that it’s big sister has. If you want to play a disc you will need to purchase a superdrive which will run about $99. Get this it will only work with the MacBook Air. You’ll have to purchase the USB ethernet adapter also. That will cost you another $29.

How Much is the MacBook Air?

Prices start at $1,799 and go up to over $3,000. Currently the MacBook Air is available for preorder. MacBook Air’s will start shipping in 2-3 weeks. Personally I’ll be interested in what people have to say about it when they receive them.

This news has me excited I cannot wait to see how they wow me with the new MacBook Pro’s.

This Will Not Replace Your MacBook Pro

Once the MacBook Air hits, the Apple store I’ll be sure to pop in and check it out for myself. If you’re looking to replace your MacBook Pro you’ll have to wait a while longer. This is not a replacement. It’s an ultra portable device and does not include a lot of the extras that I’ve grown to love with my MacBook Pro. Personally I’ll hold out and wait until they add some of these features to the new line of MacBook Pro’s.
