Apple: Overcoming My Fear of Mac’s

I didn’t make the switch to Mac’s because of the slogan “they just work.” I switched because I felt, for what I would be using it for, it was a far superior system to Windows OS. That’s just my opinion. I had a few friends that used Mac’s, but I held off purchasing one mainly out of fear.

You see switching meant I would have to learn a new OS. With Windows, I was fairly knowledgeable in corporate setting part of my job duties was technical writing. I also created various applications in Excel, Access, SQL, and Visual Basic. I also know how to repair them. I had received my certification in A+, Network +, and MCSE. Moving to a Mac would put me at ground zero. I wasn’t liking that too much.

October 2006 I finally kicked my fear to the curb and purchased a 17″ MacBook Pro. From a computer standpoint, that was the best decision I’ve made. I’m loving my MBP, and I love Mac’s. I honestly cannot see myself going back to Windows.

The Mac Diva was created to document my progress and share tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way. Although I’ve shared a few tips, like How to Right Click on a Mac, I haven’t shared nearly as much as I would like to. Finding the time can be challenging.

I’m a business owner and freelance writer and, at times, they both keep me extremely busy. Thankfully I have time to do more things with this website and so I’ll be posting Mac tips and tutorials within the next few months. A few moments ago I purchased the book Mac OS X Tiger: Missing Manual. It’s written by David Pogue.

Not only is David Pogue an author he’s also a New York Times columnist. I have read a lot of good things about this book and so I’m finally deciding to check it out. Judging from some of the reviews even intermediate users will be able to pick up some tips. Obviously, I haven’t made the switch to Leopard since I’m purchasing the Tiger Version. However if you’re looking for the Leopard and want to check out that book he has published Mac OS X Leopard: The Missing Manual When I do make the switch to Leopard I’ll definitely be purchasing that book.

Aperture Exposed: I’m Peeling Back The Layers

Aperture 1.5

Aperture 1.5

I purchased my Nikon D80 a little over a year ago. Over the years, I’ve used many photo management software by far my favorite is definitely Aperture 1.5. It’s made by Apple for the Mac so if you don’t own an Apple Mac you won’t be able to use this software.

Although I cannot remember exactly when I purchased this software. I think I’ve had it for under a year. Logging onto Apple forums and being a frequent visitor of the Apple website I eventually stumbled onto Aperture. I was impressed with the tutorials that I naturally saw on the Apple website so I went one step further and started reading the reviews. I was impressed.

I was very happy when I went back to the Apple website and discovered that I could try the full version out for thirty days! If your interested try Aperture free for thirty days. It’s labeled as a “pro application” and although I’m not a professional photographer I Read the rest of this entry »
